Modern hospital

Not everything has to be new, but …

A few weeks ago I wanted to try it again: Making my ten-year-old PC fit for today. Now the PC is running like clockwork again. But I had to invest some time and money. Sometimes such updates or modernisations are necessary. Otherwise, some things will stop working at some point.

In the hospital, modernisation may not be necessary for the PC hardware, but all the more for the electrical installation. In this article I would like to show you why it is important to keep the electrical system in your hospital up-to-date.

The old system still works

Of course I know the objections that speak against modernisation. Many believe that their electrical system still works. So far there have never been any problems. Besides, modernisation would paralyse whole areas of the hospital for a long time and, finally, it costs a lot of money.

So why modernise?

Well, things are not quite like that. The problem with older electrical equipment in hospitals is not that it won’t work longer. The problem is that these systems simply no longer meet today’s requirements. For example, certain faults are no longer reliably detected by newly acquired equipment in hospitals. And in the worst case, that means danger for patients and staff. Troubleshooting could also be difficult in such an environment. And if a device in an existing system breaks down, it may also be difficult to procure spare parts.

So it’s obvious: the electrical system in a hospital should be regularly checked for the latest requirements and modernised if necessary.

4 good reasons for an update

Like a PC, an electrical system needs regular updates.

  • In recent years, not only have new appliances been added that put a completely different strain on the power grid than in the past. Here and there, room uses have also changed. That’s why we have to react on the installation side.

  • If an older system is modernised, its operational reliability increases. Failures are avoided.

  • Last but not least, it also increases safety for patients and staff.

  • Modernisation is often cheaper than a completely new building.
